Hi Sarah

I’ve just completed the (housing needs) survey on behalf of my Mum, Veronica Donovan.  It is such a great scheme, I do so hope it gets off the ground.  Not only will it be a great move for my Mum, it would also provide her children with the relief of knowing she is in housing appropriate to her needs and with other, similar residents.

Many thanks for all the hard work.

Kind regards

Joanne Donovan May 2019

Responses from the 8 Yoxmere parishes to a draft of the project:

Westleton Parish Council:

Voted their unanimous support following a presentation

Chair Arlette Smith:

"the Parish Council are in unanimous support of the scheme and feel if successful would be of great benefit to many people in the village and surrounding area.  We also appreciate all the energy that has been put into moving the idea forward and hope that the Diocese will look favourably on the project.”

Dunwich Annual Parish Meeting:

Voted their unanimous support following a presentation

Darsham Parish Council

Chair, Robin Leggate:

"I am glad you are progressing this... We had a brief discussion at our PC meeting, where the feeling was that there is a great need for some sort of sheltered housing in this area.  We are not too badly served with nursing homes, but there is very little provision of sheltered housing for people in this benefice, who can basically still look after themselves.  We wish you all the best with your endeavours to get some built in Westleton."

Middleton Parish Council

Chair, Nigel Smith:

"This really does look exciting.....[it] seems to be a most worthwhile project.” "If you need some professional assistance, I should be pleased to help pro bono."

Theberton & Eastbridge Parish Council

Chair, Stephen Brett:

[Enthusiastic verbal support - written response not received]

Yoxford Parish Council

Chair, Russell Pearce:

"This sounds like a very exciting project for much needed accommodation for older residents who wish to remain in the area they have always lived. We in Yoxford have the same sort of issues where people have to leave the village because of a lack of suitable housing and as we all know developers do not like to build bungalows because they are less profitable. I hope you are successful with this I know how much work is involved in this type of project good luck.”

Peasenhall Parish Council

Chair, Chris Norrington:

"Many thanks for the information. This looks like a very interesting and worthwhile project. As an individual I can see the potential benefits to the communities around Westleton and would hope that colleagues on the Parish Council would also support such a move. I have passed the document on to our Parish Clerk, Mick Trovell, and asked that it forms an agenda item at our meeting on 13 July. I will then ensure that a formal response is sent to you.

Best wishes and hopefully success in securing this project.”

Sibton Parish Council

Chair, Allan Dale:

"I fully agree with what you are trying to achieve”

and from:

Michael Gower  (Suffolk County Councillor for Westleton)

"The Glebe Meadow project is extremely important to the village of Westleton.  As populations age and people live longer it is vital that communities  develop plans to give people a little bit of extra support that allows them to remain as part of an integrated community.  It is important that older people don’t feel pressure to move away from their community at a time when maintaining contact with friends and family in a familiar and supportive community is so important."

Raymond Catchpole  (Suffolk Coastal Councillor for Westleton and Vice-chair of SCDC Planning Committee)

"Thank you for updating me.  Your account of progress is very interesting….. please do continue to keep me in the loop.”

Sandy Martin (Ipswich Councillor, Leader of Suffolk County Council Labour Group)

"This all sounds very exciting and I would love to be a part of could be a fantastic example to other parishes in Suffolk."

"I do have a very earnest wish to see more provision made to house local residents who are in need of types of housing which are not currently available, and I am convinced that your scheme will be a major step forward for this."

Dr Thérèse Coffey MP

Thanks Sarah for letting me know about this. I think you had mentioned this idea before so I'm pleased it has made so much progress.

Let me know the timetable for the project and planning application. While I rarely get involved in planning, I think this is of strategic interest and would be happy to write a letter of support.
