Pet Bereavement Support
When you lose a beloved companion, the grief can be so overwhelming.
Our animals are not “just pets” they become part of our everyday lives, our routines and our families, and they are there through the good days and the difficult ones, offering a kind of unconditional love and companionship that is difficult to put into words.
When they die, whether through illness, an accident, old age or the heartbreaking decision to let them go, the sense of loss can be enormous.
You may find yourself missing the little things, the sound of their paws, their place beside you, the way they greeted you, or simply having them there. Home can suddenly feel very different and very lonely.
Pet bereavement can bring many different emotions, sadness, anger, guilt, loneliness, regret and even relief can all be part of grief.
If you made the decision to have your pet euthanised, you may also find yourself questioning whether you did the right thing, even when you know you were trying to spare them suffering.
There is no right or wrong way to grieve for an animal you loved, and there is no set amount of time in which you should be “over it”.
At Glebe Meadow I offer pet bereavement counselling in a way that works around you. I can come to you in your own home, where you may feel most comfortable, or we can take our conversation outside with a walk-and-talk session.
You can talk about your pet, your relationship with them, the circumstances of their death, and everything you are feeling now, you don't have to minimise your grief or explain why it hurts so much.
You don't have to justify your grief, you loved them, they mattered, and it is okay to grieve them.
Grief doesn't mean forgetting them or leaving them behind.
Sometimes, counselling can help you find a way to live with the loss while still holding onto the love and connection you shared.
